It Works IF You Work It

More and more businesses are choosing Content Management websites and for obvious reasons. CMS sites allow businesses to update them to add fresh new content without knowledge of HTML. It is not only search engine friendly, but allows site visitors to view current news, events, products and much more. So if you’ve invested your money in a CMS site, it is important to  invest the time to take advantage of all they offer.

As a web design and development studio, nothing makes us happier than visiting CMS sites we’ve created to find new content, uploaded pictures, and watching their rank rising on a variety of search engines. On the flip side, there is nothing more disappointing than visiting past CMS sites to find their news and events pages with the words still stating,”Coming Soon” and finding nothing has been updated or revised since the initial build.

If you have a CMS business website, it is your opportunity to connect with  site visitors and let them know not only who you are as a business now but where you are going in the future. The more enthusiasm you project to your customers, the more likely they are to be drawn to your business and share that information with others. So remember, CMS business websites only work if you work them – so work them. Your Business is worth it!

Before You Redesign Your E-Commerce Website

There are many reasons to redesign your E-commerce website. You may be looking to change to a Content Management site, increase SEO, improve user-friendliness or add a new product line. Perhaps the look of your existing website is just outdated. Although they are all valid reasons, be careful not to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Try to think of it as a face-lift not facial reconstruction. Face lifts are supposed to make you look refreshed and vibrant, not unrecognizable.

The idea of attracting new customers can be intoxicating but don’t get carried away. The bottom line is increasing your customer base. That means reaching new patrons while keeping existing ones.

Keep your existing Urls, if possible. You may not have initially chosen the most intuitive URLs to describe file content but you have an established reputation in Internet searches and links pointing to your site from other websites that are important not to lose.

Your customers are expecting to punch in your url and find the business that they have previously trusted to do business with. Be careful not to drastically change color schemes or logos. Introducing a new products line is great but make sure repeat visitors have no problem finding the products they have been purchasing on your site. This could leave visitors thinking the business is under new ownership

When trying to make your site more user-friendly, keep in mind that repeat customers are used to the old process and all of its quirks.  Familiarity makes shoppers more comfortable. You can make purchases faster and easier without completely changing the navigation.

There will be cases when a website is absolutely hideous, has a ridiculous domain name and is and is difficult to navigate. There may not be much that is salvageable. Make sure to use a professional for the redesign. They are more likely to make the transition as smooth as possible. They can  help you choose intuitive Urls,  provide appropriate design and navigation ideas and assist you in a 301 redirect. A properly done redirect is the best way to tell search engines that your site has moved permanently and will prevent losing backlinks.
