Thinking Of You

Today is not the day to write about the importance of a web presence for your business or tips on search engine optimization. The events of the last two days make it all seem rather trivial.  My thought are plagued by the devastation in Japan. I truly believed after seeing the pictures and video of the earthquake and tsunami, it couldn’t get any worse. That was before I woke up this this morning to read about the explosion of the building that housed a nuclear reactor. I have a feeling of utter helplessness and can only imagine what the people of Japan are going through.

If you’re feeling like I am , you’re probably trying to find ways to send and show support.  Be careful.  Although most of us are innately good,  we humans are also an enterprising bunch and not all of us follow the same moral compass. If you are making monetary donations, be sure it is to a reputable organization and not just any Japan relief website that will inevitable be popping up on the Internet.

Most importantly, no matter how you pray, who you pray to, or even if your not in the habit of praying at all, please send your well wishes to the people of Japan. Their troubles are a long way from over.

Would a sane human being apply for this job?

I have sneaking suspicion that the person who told women that they could have it all“, was a very lazy man who was clever enough to capitalize on our need for equality. Doesn’t “having it all” really mean, “doing it all”? We struggle to accomplish this huge laundry list, all the while, feeling guilt about our shortcomings instead of congratulating ourselves on what we do well. We get a promotion at work; we worry about not spending enough time with our families, the ten pounds we’ve gained, the dust balls in the corners of the living room or that we won’t have time to take Dad to his colonoscopy. Is anyone else tired?

Maybe it’s time to be good to ourselves. (That doesn’t mean pledging to work out more, juicing, or reading yet another self-help book.) Instead of striving to do better, it’s time we  concentrate our efforts on being happy with who we are, right now.
