Would a sane human being apply for this job?
I have sneaking suspicion that the person who told women that “they could have it all“, was a very lazy man who was clever enough to capitalize on our need for equality. Doesn’t “having it all” really mean, “doing it all”? We struggle to accomplish this huge laundry list, all the while, feeling guilt about our shortcomings instead of congratulating ourselves on what we do well. We get a promotion at work; we worry about not spending enough time with our families, the ten pounds we’ve gained, the dust balls in the corners of the living room or that we won’t have time to take Dad to his colonoscopy. Is anyone else tired?
Maybe it’s time to be good to ourselves. (That doesn’t mean pledging to work out more, juicing, or reading yet another self-help book.) Instead of striving to do better, it’s time we concentrate our efforts on being happy with who we are, right now.
