Some Will, Some Won’t – So What, Move on

We sales people are well aware we’re in a tough racket. We’re thick skinned, but as much and we love the “sales dance”, some days it just gets to you. My husband, ironically also in sales, has days where he refers to himself as a “Rejection Specialist”. That’s the game. Some days chicken, some days feathers.

The perpetually perky sales coaches will tell you that everyone is a perspective client. That may be so but is everyone your client? We often get caught up in the selling process without taking the time to step back and clearly assess the situation.

There will always be prospects that will want the best of everything but refuse to see why they should have to pay for it, no matter how well you sell it. Know what you’re worth. There is no need to give you products and services away.  My personal nightmare is the “never ending prospect”.  You know the one. They’re all over the board and you can spend countless hours reining in their focus. Just when you know you’ve earned the right to ask for the sale, they completely change direction, not just once but ad nauseam.

There comes a time when you have to realize that your time and energy is best spent elsewhere. Don’t let it rent space in your head. They just aren’t your client, but your clients are out there.  Dust yourself off and move forward.

Thinking Of You

Today is not the day to write about the importance of a web presence for your business or tips on search engine optimization. The events of the last two days make it all seem rather trivial.  My thought are plagued by the devastation in Japan. I truly believed after seeing the pictures and video of the earthquake and tsunami, it couldn’t get any worse. That was before I woke up this this morning to read about the explosion of the building that housed a nuclear reactor. I have a feeling of utter helplessness and can only imagine what the people of Japan are going through.

If you’re feeling like I am , you’re probably trying to find ways to send and show support.  Be careful.  Although most of us are innately good,  we humans are also an enterprising bunch and not all of us follow the same moral compass. If you are making monetary donations, be sure it is to a reputable organization and not just any Japan relief website that will inevitable be popping up on the Internet.

Most importantly, no matter how you pray, who you pray to, or even if your not in the habit of praying at all, please send your well wishes to the people of Japan. Their troubles are a long way from over.
